FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the fees?
ART CLASSES: Fees are taken for the full 8 weeks of term.
VOCAL CLASSES: Fees are taken for 5 week blocks (10 weeks per term).
Students are required to pay a deposit to hold a position in a chosen class (This deposit is non refundable) When the child begins the term this deposit will be deducted from their term fees. (see fees on website fees tab)
The remainder of the term or block fees are payable during the first lesson of the term. If the student does not attend the first session and the parent or guardian does not contact prior, the position in the class will be given to a waitlist student.
If you are on a waitlist you will be contacted as soon as a spot becomes available.
Fees are non refundable, unless negotiated for an extended illness (See below) Term classes are to be attended by the person enrolled. Another student cannot attend in lieu of the enrolled student for any portion of that term.
Are there make up lessons?
Students are allowed to make up 1 lesson from sickness a term.
Please do not send your child to lessons if they have the flu like symptoms or if they have covid … please call to discuss term or block fee options in this case. We need to keep all students and teachers safe and healthy.
If your child comes to classes and is sick we will call you or their emergency contact to pick them up immediately as they will not be able to attend their class.
What will my child be learning each term?
ART CLASSES
A typical term usually includes 3 - 4 skills and techniques short tasks over the first 4 weeks of term with term focus then during the last four weeks students apply these skills and techniques to a major project where they become the artist.
These projects differ each term, allowing children to develop skills and ideas in a particular medium such as drawing, painting, printmaking, collage or sculpture. At Creative Kidz Academy we like to incorporate current and past artists and cultures and springboards to students ideas and experiences.
VOCAL CLASSES
Each term will look different for every individual student. This is based on a child's strengths, the skills the child can improve on, genres or artists the child shows interest in and the goals the child wants to set for the term. We aim for 1 to 2 songs be at performance level each term and work with the student to decide on songs that help promote improvement on established goals.
How many children are in each class?
ART CLASSES
We intentionally keep classes small: approx 10 - 12 students in each class as we want to individualise learning for each student.
VOCAL CLASSES
1 student per 30 minute vocal session.
What ages will my child be learning with?
ART CLASSES
We have two programs on offer: Junior artists for 5 to 9 yrs and Senior artists for 10 to 15 yrs. The outlined age groupings are an estimate and we are flexible depending on the students' art experiences and skills in certain mediums and the term focus.
A child's ability is determined more by previous art experience than by age. For example, we’ve taught nine year-olds who have never worked with clay, done printmaking or threaded a needle alongside five year-old veterans of our classes, who have confidence in all the major art areas. It is important for our students to feel challenged by skills, techniques and creativity.
VOCAL CLASSES
For the time being there will only be individual vocal classes.
Do we need to bring anything?
ART CLASSES
Most materials are included in the term resource charge $15: When art classes require a canvas, students may want to supply their own depending on their choice of composition and size. Your child may need to bring an art shirt if they need to protect their clothes. Children can bring water bottles and a small snack (NO PEANUT PRODUCTS). They must wear closed shoes (not thongs) for safety reasons.
VOCAL CLASSES
Students are required to bring a notebook to class for homework to be written in each week.
My child has allergies, will any food be provided?
Children will be allowed to bring a snack but please note that Creative Kidz Academy is a Peanut free environment. Please do not forget to fill in details of any medical conditions as required on the enrolment form.
If your child requires an epipen please inform us and send one with them in their bag- you will also need to complete a permission to administer form if needed prior to commencement of lessons.
Can children with learning conditions attend classes?
Yes, of course they can attend classes. We accept children with a range of learning abilities. However, unfortunately we cannot accommodate children with behaviours that are disruptive to other students in group environments.
How do I drop off and pick up my child?
There is a drop of area at the back of the community centre and some council (timed) parking on the premises. There is also street parking and a parking centre in Westfields which is 3 minutes away.
Please walk your child into the room and the sign attendance sheet for drop off and pick up.
Can I drop off my child earlier than the class time?
NO - Our teachers need time to set up the room and materials for the class. Children should arrive a couple of minutes before the class is due to start.
What if I am running late to collect my child?
Punctuality in collecting your child is expected.
As we lease the rooms until 7 pm at the moment, we can not stay past that time for long as doors are locked shortly after 7pm by the council.
If you are more than five minutes late the class teacher will call you to see where you are. Our teachers will wait outside till all children have been collected from the venue. We would never leave your child unattended.
If an unexpected circumstance arises and it is not possible to collect your child at the specified time please text Joanne on 0400223977 and she will alert the needed class teacher.
Do parents/carers need to stay during classes?
There’s no need, your kids will be well looked after and too busy to notice you’re gone. Use the time for yourself, shop, read a book or grab a coffee! Westfield Miranda is a 3 min walk away.
Why not book your child into both an Art class and a weekly singing lesson? (Talk to us about this if interested)
